I love my Xicar. Really and truly do. Chinese steel or not, it's sharp and cuts every time.
The old ones with Solingen steel say so on the blade, by the logo/patent info.

I checked mine out it has "Taiwan" written on one of the sides. It cuts beautifully and I've had it for 4-5 years I think.
