I had the same idea as well. Turns out that its a little more difficult than one might imagine, and to scale it large enough to be profitable takes a non-trivial investment in commercial equipment and roasting facility/shop space. I originally wanted to start the venture from home, only expanding to a B&M location once it was large enough to support itself, but with an indoor pet that was not a realistic option due to health codes. Not that any business venture isn't tough, but local economic conditions at this time makes me think not too many people are going to be gung-ho for $12/lb (or more) coffee beans when a lot of people can't find employment. Risking my family's financial health on a decidedly risky business idea just didn't make sense, ultimately.
