Will an improperly seasoned humidor hold humidity?

Hello all. I seasoned my antiem by running the inside down with distiller water and letting it sit overnight. This was done some time ago and my humidor holds humidity well.

Today, I picked a stick from the bottom of my humidor to smoke. The moment I lit it it burned fast and lacks in flavor. I've noticed that, sometimes, my cigars seem light in flavor and burn strange.

My humidity is holding fine, but is it possible that the cedar needs reseasoning? For a week?

If so, how do you guys recommend I store my 200 cigars while it seasons? Coolidor?

Do you have a digital hygrometer? What's it reading? Try placing it at different levels of the humidor. What's the RH when it's left on the bottom?

All 3 of my calibrated hygrometers read between 67 - 70%.

In that case I would think you are fine.

I hope so. Nonetheless I am re seasoning the humidor. Will 3 or 4 days at 75% do it?

What are you using for humidification?

Two shot glasses and one Foam element. Regularly, I maintain with 1.3lb of beads.

To be honest with you I don't see why you need to season it again. If you're going to do that then I'd wipe the cedar down gently with distilled water and leave it for a few days with your beads inside.

something that big is obviously going to form dry spots. Any area that the wood is conductive and the air stagnates will become bone dry during dry weather.

I took a big sheet of plastic wrap and put it under my two big wooden humis, as it's a simple damned fact that the things have thin bottoms, and will be likely to lose humidity through the bottoms, which are left unfinished and have felt put on them. tap the bottom and see how thin it is.

This may not be the answer. It's something you ought to think about. Put a credo in the bottom tray and that may help. IMO, the very best thing you can do is facilitate air flow in the thing by using a fan powered cigar oasis. If you don't feel like doing that, I've heard of people using computer fans on timers to come on for a few minutes every day and run air around in one. Obviously, these things take wires, but the wires can be slid in through gaps in the lid, or a small hole drilled in the back. Oasis is battery operated.

I keep all my cigars at 65%. But certain cigars (usually Nics) seem to have more flavor at 75%. I don't like the way they burn at higher RH though.

I don't think re-seasoning is going to do anything at all for you. Your humidor is doing exactly what you want it to do.

Try keeping a second humidor (tupperdor, cooler, whatever) at 75%. Put the cigars in there that seem bland at lower RH and see what happens.

Or you could try putting those cigars closer to the humidifying source. in your Antietam.
