Wooden ones, doubled up. Let the matchheads flare up nice and good. Once the matchheads seem exhausted and the matchsticks themselves are burning nicely, rotate the cigar around the flame, while drawing on the cigar at the same time. I find this gives me a nice even start somewhat easier than a butane lighter would.

I still like using butane lighters to correct burn problems down the stick though. Matches are too weak to do much here.
