packing a pipe is an art and a lot can go wrong. I use the 1/3 method, fill the pipe full of tobacco and tamp it down to about a 1/3 of the pipe repeat for the 2nd 1/3rd and then fill to the top and light. After you've puffed a couple of times I will lightly tamp that down. You may have to re-light after that las tamp. Puff slow and take your time. If the tobacco is too wet, it will not stay lit after about half the bowl has been smoked, plus you will hear the gergle sp?
