Founders Whisky
I nabbed a litre of this while up in Ontario last month. It's a special version of Canadian Club obviously intended for Stateside export, as the neck label reads "imported" and the back label sports the obligatory Surgeon General's warning.
On the palate, Founders Whisky opens in a very plush manner as a Sherry cask and corn whisky velvetiness coats your mouth. Then there's a decided shift to firm spicy oak which permits the effect of older barley grain whiskies to peek through. Finally, it caps it all off with a bittersweet fruit rye twist. Founders Whisky creeps up on and captivates with its richness and complexity. I opened the bottle and downed 5 pours of the stuff before I knew what had happened! Not inexpensive at around $53CDN, but you do get a full litre for your cash. One of the finest Canadian whiskies, or whiskies period, it has been my pleasure to discover of late.
