Holiday Season whiskies

That time of the year again! And so, once again, I've highlighted a few spirits that will satisfy lovers of the water of life. Have a look-see HERE, and let me know what you think. What are some of your favourites?

The real trouble with me (other than overindulge) is that Total Wine is 30 minutes away in Kennesaw.

Why not treat yourself to the 18 Year Old Sherry Oak Macallan or the 21 Year Old Balvenie Port Wood, either of which is going for $219.99?

I dunno, the Lagavulin Distiller's Edition is a proven favorite at half the price. I believe in your guidebook that it was "Beethoven in a bottle". Perhaps my favorite of your tasting notes and I couldn't agree more.

If you like good Scotch, you owe it to yourself to get a copy of Doug's guides.

Those suggestions were mostly made in jest. Heck, I've been around the block enough times that I can remember Macallan 18 Year Old (aged exclusively in ex-Sherry casks) being available for ~CDN$60!

There are some very reasonably priced malts available at Total Wines, nonetheless. Ardbeg 10 Year Old at US$49.99, Laphroaig 10 Year Old Cask Strength at US$77.99, Edradour 10 Year Old at US$55.99 and Clynelish 14 Year Old at US$65.99 are sure bets.

Edradour is a great value... even there older iterations are well priced. And there are the blends of Douglas Laing which offer some bang for the buck IMO

Big Peat has been a favourite of mine in the past. Douglas Laing appears to have marketed quite a few more blended Scotches (both pure malt and those containing some grain whiskies in the makeup) of late. And quite a few of the company's single malt releases under the Old Malt Cask banner are also outstanding. Then there are the Clan Denny single grain bottlings, which can be outstanding.
