IPCPR Cigar: Matilde

Folks, this is my first thread and review in this room in a long time. I have a few other cigars that will be reviewed on the main page as I "report" on the few folks I spoke to and received cigars from at the show.

I didn't get to actually meet José Seijas at the show, but my friends at Quesada included this cigar in the gifts they gave to me. I thought I might give it a whirl this evening as I am writing my articles. Knowing the Quesada family, Patricia, Raquel, Terrence Reilly and Hostos Fernandez, I am certain that this is a good cigar. They make GREAT cigars, and so, if they're giving this space in their exhibit, they must play a part in its manufacture. They don't make garbage.

I looked up the cigar, online to get some specifics, but for whatever reason, they don't have any on the website beside except for the name "Renacer" which means "to be reborn." Their website doesn't have the new offering from Seijas, a Matilde Maduro.

This cigar, however, and I only got one, is a good size, it's a long corona, to me. It's not long enough to be a Lonsdale, but not short enough to be a corona, yet it's got that 46 ring gauge.

It's another sweetish cigar, a real trend I've noticed in all that I smoked at the show. Also, like everything else I've smoked in the last week, when it's going well, it's putting off a nice cloud of smoke. There's a strong pipe tobacco component to this smoke, too. I like that, and I like this flavor. But I'm not to the band, yet, and every time I pick it up, I have to relight, and not just a quick flame to tip, either. I have to work at it. Now, this could be due to the fact that it's 8:00 on a summer evening in New Orleans, but at this point the wrapper is unraveling, as well.

This is tasty, but a real chore to smoke, I'm sorry to say. I see that Don Juan Cigars, out here in Metairie carries them and Luis Molina (Mr.Puro) will be carrying them at his new shop here in Metairie when he opens next week. I will, hopefully, have another and my wish is that it stays lit so that I can enjoy the whole thing.

For now, . Perhaps other circumstances will bump that up to four.
