Bering Imperial -The Most Expensive Cigar in History

This is a great story about a regular guy who got really pissed off about no smoking rules in an Atlantic City Casino

Bering Imperial -The Most Expensive Cigar in History
As I recall, it cost Bally's Casino $4,165,000 for just one cigar !
We had a customer, and I'll try to dig up the article and post it here, who was a dentist on Long Island that smoked only Bering Imperials, a 35 cent cigar at the time that came in an aluminum tube.
He was playing Black Jack at Ballys in Atlantic city at a table with two other cigar smokers (this was in the late 70's I believe).
Anyway, he had been at the tabkle for over two hours when a casino employee came over and put a no smoking sign on his table and told the guys that they would have to relocate to the next table which was a smoking table. He said "why don't you put the sign on the next table, no one is smoking there, and we're all smoking here".
The casino operator refused, and the dentist got so pissed off that he picked up his stuff and left.
On the way out he put a dollar in a progressive slot machine and won $4,165,000 ! It was the largest jackpot ever paid out at the time and was in all the newspapers.
By the way, after winning all that money, the dentist continued smoking Bering Imperials.
You would be amazed at all the famous or wealthy people we have had over the years that smoked what they liked even though they had the wherewithal to buy anything imaginable.

Great story Lew. I know people who smoke Phillies and love them. I even gave him a real cigar and he said he liked his Phillies better. I never understood that.

Cigar Stories

I don't want to keep making new topics, so I figured I'd just add this on to the story about the Bering Imperials.
The story is about Al Goldstein of Screw Magazine, Marvin Shanken, C... Aficionado... etc.

This is definitely worth reading. I've even reread it a couple of times myself !

If someone can figure out how to paste it here with the pictures.... be my guest !

This is a really good story.
I even read it again myself !

Thanks, Lew!

These stories are what was most enjoyable about your JR catalogs.
