Kristoff Ligero Criollo
Picked this cigar up at a nice little cigar shop I found while on a job in Tallahassee this week. It had been a long day at work with a long drive ahead of me, so I was looking forward to trying out some new cigars on the way home, I chose this Kristoff to start things off. I'm almost certain this is my first Kristoff ever, so I had no idea of what to expect.
I chose this cigar because of the "eye appeal", a very interesting nice looking cigar, a Toro in size (6.5x56) with an oily dark brown Criollo wrapper, a pigtail style cap and a closed shaggy foot.......IMO a GREAT looking cigar! I lit the cigar with high hopes as I started down the road. My first impression was "disappointment". The cigar had a nice draw, but there was nothing there. I don't know why, but my first thought was "this tastes like cardboard"? I don't remember ever smoking cardboard before, but this is how I would imagine it would taste. I stayed with this cigar, hoping that something would kick in. The burn was good and was obviously well constructed. About 40 miles down the road I was just about ready to give up on this one when it finally "turned" for the better. I started getting some flavor that I liked, some hints of spice, some earthiness, some leathery notes. The remainder of the cigar stayed pretty true to this flavor profile. Medium in strength, bland in the first half, flavorful in the second. When I arrived home I looked up the particulars of this cigar and I guess what I experienced was to be expected on a certain level. The site I checked described this cigar as starting out smooth, then building to a higher octane finish. For myself, I won't be buying any more of these. I didn't think it was a "Bad" cigar, it wasn't "nasty" or anything like that.....I just found the first half to be very bland. I'll give this cigar 2 out of 5 stars, giving good marks to it's construction, appearance, and the fact that it DID develop more flavor in the second half. I'd be curious as to other opinions and experiences with this particular cigar.
