Best are those designed with an outward flare near the rim, as this feature helps to expand the aroma upward as well as to permit the whisky to hit the 'sweet spot' of the taste buds. Most of the ones we were drinking from were, in fact, Cognac glasses. The CelticMalts glass is, effectively, quite similar as regards its shape (stem differences notwithstanding).

I reserve the traditionally-styled grappa glasses (i.e. those with a bowl at the bottom topped by a straight-sided, chimney-shaped funnel) for more demure and/or lower-proof spirits that might benefit from the more focused aromatic effect this type of glassware offers.
