Love the regular orange label bulleit. Have you tried the green label rye? Oh man is it delicious.

My friends and I make a cocktail we affectionately refer to as a Johnny Cock. Its 2 oz rye, club soda, ginger ale, peach bitters and fresh squeezed lime.

Seriously one of the best mixed drinks I've ever had.

I would like to see you do a review of Templeton Rye sometime...

Not yet. But it is available locally, so I may give it a go.

Dan, I can't procure the Templeton Rye locally, so that particular one may have to wait for an opportunity to nab it as a potential 'travelling purchase'.

One of my personal rye favourites is Lot No. 40 (a Canadian product), which is distilled in a single copper pot still and aged in new oak. It's a cracker. And Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye isn't far behind quality wise.

Great review, Doug.....love it the bourbon...and, yes, a gentle splash of water does "open it up."

How does it compare to the orange label? I have not had the specific expression you reviewed (haven't even seen it for sale here), but it sounds like one to look for.

I can't offer a personal assessment, as I've not yet tasted the regular bottling. But from what I gather, the 10-year old's not so overtly sweet as its younger stablemate, and is also noticeably more influenced by oak. If you find that sort of flavour profile appealing, then it might just be worth investigating, provided the price is right.

I drink so little anymore that I can afford to savor the better whiskies now. I like Beam just fine, but I am starting to venture out into spirits that were before prohibitively expensive.
