Question about Meerschaums

I am a long time pipe smoker and new to cigars, but I never touch my meerschaums except by the stem. I did have one crack several years ago. It was one of the tiny little heads that are pretty cheap and I just figured that was why it broke.

I just wrote it off to experience and never got another one like that.

Also the touching thing is due to the hand oils. Most everyone holds the pipe a standard way, for them. If you hold a "M" (can't stand typing it again) in the same place you will get dark finger prints where you repeatedly touch it and it will look pretty ugly.
