Hearth and Home Lakeland Brickle
I'm frustrated by Gawith's lack of availability. Not to mention that prices have almost doubled.
Pipesandcigars.com has a house blend that strives to be "Lakeland" in nature. Minimum order is 8oz. WTF, I'll give it a try. I added 4 oz. each of Steamroller and Anniversary Kake just to round out the order. I'll let you know what I think sometime next week. Plus they have a 10% discount on pipe tobacco if you use the coupon code tobacco10 |

The tobacco arrived today. The Lakeland Brickle is very moist and goopy. I'm going to air it out for a day before trying to smoke it. Likewise the Anniversary Kake. They both smell good though. The Brickle has an aroma that reminds me of Gawith's Kendal Cream Flake.
The Steamroller was dry. It smells like Latakia. But in smoking it the Latakia stays pretty much in the background. It reminds me of C&D's Old Joe Krantz with just a touch of lat.. Pretty good! |

Ditto! I love SG FVF and Best Brown but I might have to find alternatives - even if they ever get back in stock!

I managed to get the Brickle pretty dry. It smokes quite a bit like Kendal Cream Flake. But it isn't a flake. More of a chopped leaf. Because of this, it expands a lot as you get it going. It requires a lot of tamper work. It's a tad bitey for me. Normally I smoke like a house afire. So I have to take it easy. But I like the flavor. And it's good and strong. I'm going to keep trying with the 8oz. I have.
Still drying out the Anniversary Kake. This stuff is wet! |
