Have had some good ones, but generally prefer the more traditional (some residual sugar to balance the acidity) style of German Riesling. Which one did you pop the cork on?

Isn't that a coincidence?

I've had some pretty fantastic bottles from the von Buhl estate in the past. And Pfalz Riesling does generally seem better suited for producing dry wines than Rieslings from the more northerly (such as the Mosel) regions.

Followed up Saturday evening with a 'fresh' pour of the top of a just opened bottle of Arran Amarone Cask Finish (50%ABV)... A little 'hot' to start (due to the relative youthfulness of the spirit and the alcohol level), but with some added grape-like sweetness nicely complementing the intrinsic characteristics of the distillate as the whisky opened up in the glass.
