Punch Double Corona June 1998
Beautiful day to smoke a fine cigar as a 1998 Punch DC. My first impression is "wow this is a HUGE cigar." I have been blessed to have been smoking a range of 1997 and 1998 cigars. All have been exceptional. But the 98 Punch DC was the one I looked so forward to smoking the most, so here it goes.
Wrapper - Colorado Maduro, slight toothy, bit thick, yet gorgeous. It is a monument to what a great looking cigar looks like. 5/5 Construction - a bit heavy and dense. No soft spots at all. I usually find some soft spots on large format cigars but not on this one. Draw was a bit stiff but still a good draw. A bit of a runner while smoking, ash was firm dark gray. 4/5 Flavor - Wow, lots of cedar and bitter nuts right off the bat. After the first inch the woodsy, sweet spices typical of Punch came alive. I am amazed by how strong this sample is, I don't recall Punch DC's being this full in flavor. The flavor just keeps building as I smoke it down. This cigar really has BIG flavor on the last third. There's this sweetness that reminds me of baked goods on the last third. Simply amazing. 10/10 Final thoughts - over an hour of pure smoking pleasure. You have to set a good amount of time for this cigar. It is time we'll spent. Flavors are amazing. Another example of a true connoisseur cigar. 19/20
