One hour? I thought it was supposed to be bone dry when you smoke it???
No, not bone dry ... but definately dryer than cigars. Take some in your fingers and pinch it together. If it stays clumped in a ball ... the tobacco is too wet. If it crunches and starts turning to dust ... it's way too dry. You need to hit the area in between ...
That might explain some of the tongue bite I've been getting.
Hmm, wet tobacco is much more likely to cause tongue bite than dry - for the same reason that it hurts a lot more to hold your hand over a teakettle than it does to put it in a 212 degree oven. How frequently are you puffing? Do you use a tamper when you smoke? The surest way to reduce bite is to smoke as slowly as you can while maintaining an even burn. Using a tamper to even out your bowl when it burns down faster in the middle than it does around the edges and then relighting helps this process along...
