Ok, I've tried retrohaling several times now and its gonna take practice for sure. The couple of times I was successful I could most assuredly pick up nuances in the cigar I had not before.

It just feels weird doing it like I'm trying to trap a greased guppy to the roof of my closed mouth and not doing to good a job of it. I'll get there though.

It's not easy. Just make sure you exhale most of it out of your mouth and just let the last bit through your nose.
