New Maker's Barrel Strength

Anyone tried it yet? Reasonable price point, but reluctant to pull the trigger on a bottle blind.

It sounds (from some of the reviews) as though this one represents a distinct improvement over the standard bottling in terms of palate presence and length, not to mention the fact that the added 'heat' better balances the typical MM slightly sweet house style.

Interesting. Might have to pick up a bottle later this week.

Given the high price points for the new generations for whiskey, I'm always looking for something new and affordable.

I have found it way too sweet in its current 'usual' formats. Glad they have amped it up.

I feel that the Maker's 46, despite its decidedly sweet character, has enough warmth, depth and spiciness to balance out nicely in the glass. In contrast, I haven't exactly been impressed with my most recent bottle of the standard Maker's Mark, which I've found to be quite light and uninspiring.

That seems to be the trend amongst large and midsized bourbon distillers. The whiskey just seems either young or the mash bill has been slightly different. I'm guessing youth. Maker's, BT, and others. Beam has remained consistent and for my money is the best value.

It doesn't hurt that my neighborhood store is selling the 1.75l for two cents less than the 750ml bottle. If I don't tell them, maybe they won't notice.

750ml is 21.99, 1.75l is 21.97. strange until you know how the guy buys it. Nobody but old drunkards like me wants to be seen buying bourbon by the handle.

"Bourbon by the handle?" As a confirmed Heaven Hill man, I take umbrage (not to mention two ice cubes.)
