2000 Chateau Reignac Bordeaux
Reading the other Bordeaux thread below inspired me to write up something about this wine which I found in the basement of my local wine shop. I usually stay away from French wine because since I know little about them and I usually end up with something mediocre and over-priced (so much easier to pick out good California reds.) Plus, the label indicates (I think, its in French) that it is mostly Merlot, which is not my favorite, and was $32 which is a lot for wine for me. But a little 92 point tag from Robert Parker encouraged me to take a risk.
This is a big, tasty wine, much more similar in character to the big Zins that I usually drink rather than the watery Merlots I expect from California, at least to my wine-dumb palate. Fruitier than Zin, but thick, dense, chewy, which I like. Very tasty and seems like it could get better with a couple more years on it. There seems to be a little something that is hiding in the back, not fully uncovered yet. An hour or two after opening it was even better. Not sure why it has been lingering around the liquor store for so long, but I think I will go get the last couple bottles.
Anyway, if you see some, grab it up. Maybe their later bottlings are worth checking out, too.
