T Bone Burnett
I first heard T- Bone back in the '80's. His Proof Through the Night and Trapdoor albums really struck a chord with me. They have been unavailable since right after their release until Rhino did a re-issue of Proof along with Trapdoor and Behind the Trapdoor. At $39, I thought it was kind of steep and passed on it until a friend sent one of the songs from Proof that he had digitized. I had forgotten how good this album was. I went to Amazon and found the album now at $65 for used copies! I went to ebay and found it at $37 and snagged it. Amazing stuff.
I think he's mostly doing soundtracks these days.
