Immersion chiller...

Woo Hoo! I finally got a wort chiller.

It's 25' of stainless steel 3/8" dia. tubing.

Now for some lighter bodied/colored brews.

Everything will be cleaner and clearer looking, too.

SS doesn't deform or get banged up as easily as copper.

Less (practically zero) tarnish/corrosion into the wort as well.

The heat exchange rate is a little less efficient, but we are talking a few minutes difference in a 5 gallon batch.

I got it from Midwest Supplies.

Have about the same length copper one and love it. Never seen a SS one? Makes sence that it wont get all banged up. It is so damn hot here we had to run a pre chiller in line before the wort chiller....and still had a hell of a time dropping below 80 deg. Im talking we had one coil in a cooler with 4 bags of ice and then that ran out to the one we put in the wort. Thinking it was our last brew till it cools off in October. Hell even the water coming out of our house faucet is 78-80 deg lol.

Congrats on the new buy!

boys in the local homebrew clubs use them reverse flow chillers, and put a pre-chiller in the water line too. In august I've seen the wort come out at 38-40 degrees. Basically they use what you got there as the prechiller, in a cooler full of ICE...

Hell, I wish my cold water was that cold. I get burned after the first 20 or so seconds over here.

That seems to be a little too cold even if brewing a lager.
Generally, I thought the wort was brought to pitching temps (65-80), then the yeast added, let fermentation begin and the slowly dial down the temp to desired level.

Yeah, they adjust the waterflow when it's coming out that cold, but immersion prechiller + counterflow chiller...well, DAMN.
