Cooler size question
Ok , in the next month I will be in cigar acquisition mode ...
I have one 48 qt cooler which will be filled rather quickly... since I will have to go buy a few coolers , my question is , what size coolers seem to work best for your "normal" size cigar boxes such as Monte #2 and BBF dress boxes... I have a humidification question.... but , that will be another thread... Dan |

100 quart is best in my opinion. Here is what I use:
https://www.amazon.com/Igloo-Quick-a.../dp/B00WHIXVPY 100 quart igloo maxcold with two latches. I taped over the hinged small access lid on the top of the lid. Never had a problem keeping constant humidity with this model. $60 is a good price, I think. |

Cool (pun intended) ,the physical size isn't bad either , I will have to check those out when I start my acquisitions ... edit: approx how many boxes do you fit in your 100 and 48 qt'ers ? Thanks Dan |

Just estimating but easily 30+ in the 100 quart. The 48s don’t have enough room in the bottom, so you are limited. Maybe you could fit 15 if you had some serious Tetris skills

I like 48qt. I have a half dozen of em.
They stack nicely.

I use the 48qt coolers because they fit two to a shelf on the units I use in my closet-a-dor. I had to quit at 13 because I ran out of shelf space.

ditto on the 49/50 qt. I prefer the ones with the dome lids because you got room for airflow...

A cheaper alternative to a cooler is a plastic bin. You don't pay for the insulation protection that most do not need. Just make sure the lid provides a decent seal. I've had one for years now and it holds humidity better than my end table humidor.

I too have used the big Marine coolers in the past and got good service from them. I used Spanish cedar blocks or pieces of solid boxes to space boxes off of the floor of the cooler for separation, circulation and then humi'd them with the beads. It all worked without a hitch. I liked the big cooler's thermal benefits and the temperature stabilization gains as well. It's worth it, when you look at the replacement cost's of the contents. I left them in AK when I relocated to CA. Good Luck!
Cheers!

Get larger than you think you'll need.
