Thinking of building a humidor - airtightness?

I have an old wooden box that my uncle made for my mom a long time ago. I am thinking of converting it into a humidor by adding a thick layer of polyurethane or some other sealant to the inside and then lining it with Spanish Cedar. my concern is about airtightness and whether a humidor should be airtight or how much air flow is acceptable.

If anyone else has converted old boxes in this manner i would appreciate any hints or tips.

Thanks
Joe
