Nitrogen killing beetles?
Some casualties of Katrina were flooded first edition books, swamped 60 year old LPs, and cuban cigars and wine that went 6 weeks in 90+ degree temperatures.
A friend was talking to me about how a friend of his lost about $200k in wine that got cooked. I mentioned that a lot of people got attacked by beetles. We went through the deal of beetle eggs being in many/most cigars, and how they tend not to hatch below 75 degrees. He asked me, "Why don't you just put them in a chamber of pure nitrogen for a week?", theory being that if the beetles/eggs are starved of oxygen, they would die. I didn't know if that would work or not. I RTFF, and there wasn't anything on it. I know that the lack of O2 should kill the beetles, but I don't know if it would kill the eggs. Does anybody know if this would work?
