I never thought case humidifiers would work all that well unless your guitar case seals up pretty tight and you don't take the guitar out to play it.

The wild swings will get ya. I have several middle eastern lutes called ouds. The have tension tuning pegs and there is no metal found in the instrument. The wild swings in temp we have here in Fla will cause the pegs to slip big time but I have never had problems with humidity and face cracks and I have one insturment that is from 1902.
