Boulevard brewery 'bundle up' barley wine.
oh, lord, that was wonderful. the thing was probably a belgian style ale. 11% abv. it was a dark reddish brown, and put up just the right amount of effervescence. The hops are stronger than the usual beer, but well balanced. Instead of being heavily malty, the spiciness of the hops cause it to be crisp and tasty. The best thing about this bottle was the cinnamon, spicy taste, along with just a moderate level of possibly brown sugar flavor. Just what you would want in a cold weather beer, imo. The bottle was the usual 750 ml with champagne cork. Started out with just a pint glass, then topped it off, again, finally dumped the whole bottle in. I had planned on sharing it with my nephew, instead, I bought a bottle of chimay to share.
God have mercy, that was good. $11 a bottle. I can't offer a comparison to others, but that was blindingly good.
A seasonal brew, and the first barleywine that they have ever created. anyone interested should pick one up, or even a case, asap. I believe that cellaring it for a few years would be just dandy.
