OK, I really thought about this and I realized that due to my lack of patience, I haven't done this nearly enough. Some tobacco is obviously dry and some tobacco is obviously wet, so that's easy to deal with. However, some tobacco seems like it's not too moist, and I stuff it right out of the jar or tin, and while it smokes OK, it's not perfect. So I did an experiment with a couple of flake tobaccos yesterday and today which I had been rubbing out and stuffing right out of the jar, MacBaren Old Dark Fired and Bold Kentucky. Each one I took some out of the jar, rubbed it out, and let it sit for at least 15-30 minutes until the point where it was noticeably drier. Guess what, both bowls smoked better than I had experienced before, better burn with lots more smoke production and far fewer relights. I think that it tasted better too with the better volume of smoke with each puff. Flavor wise, not a whole lot different, just better. I will be doing this with all tobacco that seems a bit moist from now on, whether its shag, ready rub flake, or ribbon, it's just so obvious to me now.

Mixed GH Brown Cavendish with SG Brown #4 to tame the rope a bit, but at 50/50 I diluted it too much. Still good, but not the bold flavor it had, will try adding just a little next time. This is one of the Stanwells I got in a trade a while back, really good smoker.

Smoked some Bill Bailey's Balkan Blend today and now smoking Orlik's Mellow Mixture.

Yes, that is a good looking Stanwell Andy.

Smoked some Brebbia Balkan in my new bent bulldog. Then some SPC Snoqualmie Falls in my Bing's Favorite, and now I'm smoking Hearth & Home White Knight. It's been a good smoking day.
