Tabac Trading Co. La Casa del Tabac Figurado

Upon initial inspection this is a very odd cigar. Half of the wrapper is Habano 2000 while th other half is Candela. Also, both ends are open to give the smoker the choice of which end to smoke first. The company was gracious enough to supply me with two samples, so this half of the review will start by lighting the candela. The ciars come in a two-pack so that the smoker can try it from both ends. The cold draw is perfect and the bunch is pleasantly firm. Today’s beverage is a cold Topo Chico.

The sharp green of the candela wrapper is evident as expected, although the nutty notes of the Habano 2000 are evident on the lips. Without disclosing some of the details the manufacturer asked me to withhold, the binder and the filler are essentially the same throughout, so the main flavor variation will come at the wrapper change.

In the first third the candela flavors are not predominant, as in the few candelas that I smoke. The bulk of the flavors comes from the well- balanced fillers and binder, which make this a solid medium bodied smoke. While the candela adds its trademark “greenness” to the profile, there are also earthy and woody flavors. The cigar is burning mostly even and is well constructed.

In the second third the flavor profile remains consistent. The cigar is very smooth and the burn is mostly even. The fillers are very medium bodied while the binder adds a bit of a kick. The cigar is smoking very slowly which speaks to the quality of the construction.

Approaching the transition from candela to Habano 200, a bit of pepper has appeared in the retrohale.

At the transition from candela to Habano 2000 wrapper the strength of the cigar intensifies to a more full bodied cigar. The nutty Habano flavors are immediately apparent. Other than that the complexity of flavors remains about the same. The burn remains very even.

During the second third after the wrapper transition the cigar becomes very nicotine heavy. The flavor profile has picked up some coffee notes, probably because of the different wrapper. The burn remains very even.

Approaching the final inch the complexity of flavors remains excellent. The nicotine content is a bit high, but the flavors are excellent. I will assign this cigar a rating after I smoke the Habano 2000 end first.

All of the pre-smoke conditions apply to the second cigar. I am smoking it on a fresh palate with another cold Topo Chico.

The main difference is the nuttiness of the Habano 2000 on the palate with the green quality of the candela on the lips. Perfect draw and even burn.

In the first third the cigar is smoking very much like a Habano with hints of candela. The flavor profile is earthy with oak and savory spices. The retrohale is very smooth. The burn is very even.

At the break the candela comes to the forefront without overwhelming the complexity of the flavor profile. Some white pepper has appeared in the retrohale. The burn remains very even.

Approaching the final inch the wrapper split but the flavor profile remains solid. The construction was great until the wrapper split. Quite a different cigar compared to smoking the candela end first, but still an enjoyable cigar. 8.5/10, Joe Bob says check it out.
