I've been having a bit of a showdown with this fat maduro bastard. I absolutely hated the 1st one I tried 3 months ago.
I threw the other 1 I bought in my El Rey. Well, for the past several months, it's been staring me down thru my humidor's glass window everytime I walked by; challenging me, mocking me for coughing and spitting out his brother after only smoking 1/3. 'Harsh? Biting Pepper taste? Wimp!' Well, tonite I felt up to the challenge. Damned if 3 months of aging didn't mellow the feller out. It was very oily and a wonderful cedar, slight pepper, and mineral perfume taste filled my mouth. The shiny black wrapper contrasted wonderfully with snow white ash. My book forgotten, (my heart pounding a bit from the strength) I sat back and really enjoyed it. Strong, full bodied cigars like this are made for aging- give the guys another try. I bought a few singles a while back....smoked all but one. They had a harsh bite that I couldnt get used to. I buried the last one in MY El Ray (LOL) and will check on him when the weather breaks.
I usually find if JDD recommends a cigar there is good reason. |

I'm with you Mav.
I bought some Classicos back in early November when they were initially released. The first one I smoked was just ok. Nothing to write home about. I didn't look at them til about a week or so ago. Smoked another and it was fantastic, great flavor, great burn, just a really good strong cigar. These Partagas Blacks have a lot of POTENTIAL, but they need a lot more age on them. I'm gonna save the few I have left for about 6 months to a year and then smoke the he!! out of them!

Well, i had pretty much dismissed trying any of these. But now, I guess a couple singles bound for the box is in order. Good review.
