Grolsch beer.
Okay, a guy my wife works with home brews. He's been buying the wicket top bottles, rather than using caps. So, it seems that he buys Grolsch, and gives them to people who'll drink any damned thing, as long as they give him back the bottles. My wife showed up with two bottles of the stuff yesterday, and I just popped one.
Yuck. Pooparoonies. So, I have 4 of them in storage, I'll send him them along with the fresh empties, so at least somebody will be spared drinking a few bottles of them. |

Sour, yeasty, got that woody taste that you expect in a lager, and a black pepper like finish.
It's better than I remember it, I think that the first ones I had were definitely skunked. It reminds me of my first moosehead, but not as bitter as it was. I'll drink scope to cop a buzz before I'll swallow a six pack of this. Damn, the things you do for friendship. |

It's the type of hops used, combined with UV radiation activity on the hop oils in the bottles. Grolsch is very good on draft...

Agree, very good on tap. It's been a while since I had any bottled but I recall it being pretty good. Maybe you got some that had been in the bottle too long or just a bad batch?

The bottles looked clean and fresh, but who the hell knows?
The one thing I can't stand is a sour tasting beer. As I said, this was a huge improvement over the skunky crap I had the first few times. I'll drink the second one tomorrow, and figure out if it was just a fluke. |

I used to drink the bottled stuff in the late 1970's and it was good. I think the ones you got were spoiled by heat and light.

Nah. He had the wicker cap bottles. The ones on the road (Epic Fail) have regular bottle caps.

It would be much easier to go to a home brew site and buy the bottles, in the proper color (amber/brown) no less.

never could get into Grolsch, or get near it...looks like i need to give it one more try on tap.
Here in Denver, those bottles are quite popular given all the brewing that goes on. denver.craigslist.com
