I've recently started to age my cigars while my focus has turned to pipes. So I'm still trying to figure out the normal practices of a pipe smoker. The other day I was at my B&M and he recommended that I pick up a can of this. He said to use it about once every week or two. Do you guys use this? If not what is your ritual of cleaning/sweeting your pipes?

I clean the inside of my pipes with Everclear after every use so never get any build up on the inside and clean the outside with Briar Pipe Wipe. Every once in a while I'll buff them to a shine with carnuaba. Pipe Wipe just keeps the shine between buffings.

Pipe wipe is really just pledge for pipes. It will wipe away the oil from your fingers and keep a shiny pipe, shiny. Once the wax on the pipe wears off and it starts out dull, pipe wipe won't help. A good cleaning and a good coat of carnuba wax will bring back the shine and protect the wood better.

I'm not nearly as anal about my pipes as I used to be. I rotate my pipes so that I smoke a different each day. About once a month, I take a good pipe cleaner and clean out the gunk. Maybe once a year, I use everclear to really scrub my pipes and freshen them up. To be honest, if you have a bottle of high octane rum laying around, that works just as good.

Remember, not for ingestion. It will do the same thing to your insides as it does to the pipes.

In all honesty, a 2 dollar bottle of 90% isopropyl will work just as well.

It definitely will do the job, but I always perceive a lingering aroma. 190 proof Everclear added to an equal amount of spring water is basically 95 proof vodka.
