Cohiba Lancero

This cigar has been in my humidor for about 12 years and I really don’t remember how old it was when I acquired it. The natural brown wrapper shows some veining and has a good dusting of plume. The bunch is pretty solid and the cold draw is a bit tight. Pre-light aromas are mostly classic Cuban barnyard. Today’s beverage is a cold Topo Chico.

The initial flavors notes are also something I expected, the Cohiba grassiness. The burn immediately ran down one side but is slowly correcting. The mostly dark grey ash falls off easily.

The first third is slow burning because of the tight draw. However, the flavors are settling in with smooth cedar and rum notes. The ash is now a solid light grey and the burn is now razor sharp perfection.

During the second third the draw remained tight in spite of purging and rolling over solid spots. The flavors have picked up peppery notes on the tongue. The burn continues to be perfect. I got tired of fighting the draw and got my poker; not more than an inch in I found the problem and now it is perfect. There is a light sweetness and the pepper notes are more pronounced and also follow through to the retrohale.

Approaching the final inch the smoke has gotten a bit warmer (the main reason I dislike using a poker). The pepper notes are now dominant with leather and cedar in the draw. Even after using the poker the burn continues to be perfect. I knew going in that there was a chance that it would draw slow, but I still don’t regret smoking it. The overall flavor and complexity were excellent. 9/10, Joe Bob says check it out.
