Any fans of electronic music?

I'm a big fan, mainly listen to drum n bass, dub, and ambient/experimental.

Anyone else?

Spent my college years doing (too many) drugs and listening to the likes of Brian Eno,Robert Fripp, Jon Hassel, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Jean-Michele Jarre, et al. Still have about a dozen Eno albums (yes albums).

Eno led me to Cage and then led me to the minimalist composers - Terry Riley, John Adams, Phillip Glass, and Steve Reich .... Reich and Adams being my favorites.

Have met Moby a couple of times (he and my cousin went to high school together and they're still friendly). A bit odd, go figure, but interesting to chat with about the older genre of ambient music. Haven't paid attention to this genre lately.

I saw Philip Glass live, once. I didn't know what the hell it would be when I went in, and I didn't know what the hell it was when I left.

I still listen to that stuff. Steven Reich is probably my favorite, followed by Terry Riley. I used to listen to a lot of Phillip Glass, but I can only listen to a handful of his pieces now. Company, as recorded by Gidon Kremer, struck me as being quite good. I don't think I've ever heard the quartet it's based on. His violin concerto is also well done. I can't listen to Glassworks at all anymore. It's just too dense and emphatic for my taste. I felt that Michael Torke was a suitable successor to Glass. His Color Music was brilliant.

I have a hard time with John Adams. He's certainly a very talented orchestrator. Unfortunately, his interpretation of minimalism doesn't seem to go much beyond repetition.

Cage is a very powerful and varied composer. Each of his pieces has a very strong identity, independant of the rest of his body of work.
