What a fascinating read! And what a talent to do what you do!
So what do you do with your finished humidors, sell them on ebay? What an heirloom one of these would be! 👍🏼👍🏼

I agree with what Gumby said. Some years ago I purchased some Spanish cedar from Rockler Lumber in Lenexa, Ks.(Kansas City area). I don't know if they are still there, but it might be a place to get some S.c. It came in 1/4" sheets. I wanted to use it to make trays for my humidor. It's still sitting behind the back of my desk!

I sold or traded a lot of humidors on CW back in the aughts. Garme1962 had two of my boxes.
These days if nobody here wants an xrundog humidor I'll put it on eBay at a fixed price and wait it out.

This is a good point to talk about the bottom.

A lot of people don't think about the bottom. Original bottom is paper embossed to look like leather. Do you want this touching your fine furniture? Something has to be done. I scrape off the loose stuff and leave the rest to be covered.

I tried soft felt like what one sees on vintage Dunhill and Decatur humidors. I found it was hard to cut precisely and became nappy very easy. I found this stiff felt at the hobby store. Cuts great, easy to handle, looks perfect. I used a spray adhesive to affix it. But I found I didn't like the way the box looked sitting flat. I bought small chair glides from Rockler. Amazon has good ones too. Drill some small pilot holes in the corner and tap them in. Doesn't that look nice?

I'm trying to take pics without a flash. It gives a better representation of how things really look.

A couple things today:

Yes, the finish is complete. I taped off and polished the brass again because I suspected there was a thin film of T&T on it. I was right. It polished up very nice. Looks much better.

Finished liner. Glass top and bottom. Sides are Spanish cedar. I'm very pleased with the fit and finish of this one. Nice tight seal too. I have to push the lid down and listen to that cedar squeak.

Tray sides and ends are in the background. In the foreground is the tray bottom. You can see I have made the complex mathematical calculations to determine where the tray bottom holes will be and carefully marked them out.
I'm currently preparing some pipes for eBay so my drill press is currently acting as a buffer. Probably do the drilling and assembly tomorrow.
