the biggest difference is that a thermal block is like a radiator and heats the water as it moves through the coils, a boiler has to build up heat. a thermal block can pull continuous shots till you rumn out of water, a bolier machone has to rebuild the temp in the boiler afer each pull. their are great boiler machines, just as their are great thermal block machines, the solis is one of the thermal blocks. it is a matter of personal preference but for someone like me who drinks a pot of espresso. i like the thermal block as i can pull back to back shots, and as far as steaming milk, you never run out of pressure or hot steam as you will find happens in boiler machines,
Yes commercial machines are boiler machines but they have 30 gallon boilers(well ok 10 gallon) home boiler machines have very small boilers.
