Joe, I've had my Rosto for a while now and it was told to me that the scoop that comes with the Rosto can tend to overfill the machine. What I've found, for me, is that if I fill the roaster JUST to the bottom of the metal dome, a hair over 3/4c by volume, I have absolutely no problem getting an extremely dark roast. This also seems to help preserve the coffee's brightness, as the longer it takes to roast (different here than DEGREE of roast), the less bright the final result.
