Slow going today. I was working on the felt covered lid seal strips. I had to think things through a bit. The felt squares I have aren't long enough so I had to work on a diagonal. I smeared a strip with glue and then pressed the felt in place. Tomorrow I will trim it with a scissors leaving a flap to wrap over the top. It'll make sense when it's done. I'll post a pic probably tomorrow.

Screwed up the first felt strip. Going to order some new felt in a size that's easier to work with. Going to work on finishing the body right now instead. Bought some stainable wood filler today and filled in around the dowel on the backside.
Should have more progress pics soon. |

First off, I found what looks like good quality self adhesive felt in a long dimension on Amazon. Going to try that on the lid strips.
Second, I stained the body with the golden pecan stain today. Front shot. The old repair shows and I am fine with that. Back shot. The repair is in the top left corner. I decided to stain it dark. The contrast between the dowel and the wood filler doesn't show that way. It was going to show no matter what. This way I think it looks like an older repair too. |

Thanks Brother! I just applied the last coat of True oil. This stuff really enhances the patina of the quartersawn oak. I think the reaction from a knowledgeable person would be something like: "That isn't the original finish, is it?" I think there would be just a little bit of doubt. Like maybe it could be, but likely isn't. That's pretty much what I'm going for.
I'll put on the exterior hardware and set the lid on for some pics tomorrow. |

Here's the pics with the True Oil finish. It's also been waxed.
Front: Back: Left Side: I cut a piece of copper for the bottom but it didn't work out. There was a small amount of what I guess was roofing adhesive and it would not come off. I probably could have got it off, but I would have also marred the surface. Best to find another piece. Done for today. |
