The Oscar

[NOTE: this is a completely different cigar than The Leaf by Oscar]

After removing the candela outer wrapper I see a lovely medium Habano wrapper. Very light tobacco aromas from the wrapper and foot. The bunch is firm and the cold draw is perfect. Today’s beverage is a cold Topo Chico.

The cigar starts out with cedar and pepper notes. There is also a good amount of pepper in the retrohale. It is also burning very even.

First third some sweetness added to the complexity of the cedar and pepper. Still burning good but the wrapper seems pretty fragile. I’ll be peeling off the ring instead of my usual practice of sliding it off.

Unfortunately, the ring was so firmly attached that even peeling it off as carefully as possible still damaged the wrapper. For me, this detracts from the enjoyment of the cigar. The flavors remain complex and pleasant, it just has to be handled very carefully.

Approaching the final inch I decided to use my nub holder to prevent further damage. The smoke remains flavorful and the cigar is still burning even. Some extra spice notes are and a light sweetness added to the complexity for a pleasant smoke. I was just put off a bit by how fragile the wrapper was. I will give it 7.75/10 with the understanding that I can adjust the rating after smoking another. Still, Joe Bob says check it out.
