I wish I could find cucumpers for less than $2-3 a pound. None of the farmer's markets, none of the stores, nowhere.

That's strange. They're a little higher than last year, but they aren't that expensive unless you want special sizes or species.

Kirby cucumbers and most pickling cucumbers are in peak season during the summer months, but are generally available all year around. During the summer, you can find the best firm cucumbers that are best for pickling. Avoid soft cucumbers. I like to use firm smaller cucumbers. Here is good article about pickling cucumbers.

There are many Asian super markets in my part of the country so I can usually find excellent Kirby's for around $0.99 Cents a pound.

Jason, the farmer's market here has a feeling of price fixing. Wife just picked up an eggplant for 75,but so many things are just ridiculous. Pickle cucumbers,re sold in quart containers for several bucks.

You don't want to buy okra here, they let the stuff grow to the size of bananas, it's completely inedible.

I blame this whole farm to table trend as well as the buy local fad. Without going on a rant about how elites take what is a good thing and inevitably foul it up for everyone else, it's supply and demand on full display. The more demand for the same amount of item, the price goes up. When everyone in supply grows more of what is in demand chasing the higher prices, the demand will peak and the price will fall as supply outstrips demand.

Damn and blast. I posted the newly discovered recipe and hit the previous thread button and wiped it out. PM me if you want a copy.
