Black Works Killer Bee Lonsdale

Smooth dark oily wrapper with a good firm bunch. Dark tobacco notes off of the closed foot. I should mention that the lancero of the Killer Bee is an event-only vitola, the every day Killer Bee being a corona. James Brown, the owner/blender of Black Works is here signing posters and chatting with the customers. Redland Cigar in San Antonio is hosting the event.

Very intense tobacco flavors from the start. A sharp contrasting flavor of anise on the back of the tongue is coming through prominently. The burn is even and the ash is firm. Pairing with a Ranger Creek OPA is perhaps a bit of a mismatch; might clear and try something else.

Switching to a more "flavor neutral" Shiner Bock and the cigar flavors are cleaner. At 1/3 the tobacco and anise flavors are more balanced. There is also a small "twist" of candela at the cap that leaves a little grassiness on the lips.

At 2/3 the tobacco notes have intensified with the anise still present but more in the background. Not a cigar for the faint of heart, but very pleasant and complex for the fans of strong cigars.

Put it down at one inch. Some nice black pepper notes emerged towards the end. Excellent construction and burn, once again this cigar is for the full flavor full bodied fans. 8.75/10. Joe Bob says check it out.

I got two of the coronas last month from a smoke shop in Texas. I smoked one and it was well built and burned well while delivering a good tobacco flavor with not too much variety. Still a respectable stick and I look forward to the next one for comparison.

I always like your reviews, Cheers!

Brian, no corona size in the Killer Bee line that I know of, more like a Petit Corona size. Was some other Black Label Trading line maybe?

Andy,

it certainly could be considered a PC size. Now days it seems like the manufacturers are just making up sizes anyway. These definitely had the distinctive yellow jacket striping on the cap.

Cheers!

Yeah you are correct, I see it listed at some sites as a Corona and others as a Petit Corona. According to standard sizing it's really neither, but that's another topic for debate
