Mayorga Torpedo Maduro

I bought a box of these wonderful Nestor Placencia blended vitolas in April of 2005 and am down to my last few. I've enjoyed every single one.

This is a solidly constructed, attractive and very consistent cigar. Each one identical to the last, improving over time. Some minor cosmetic flaws in the chocolaty brown wrapper along the corner edges, possibly from getting pinched in a worn mold. Not a problem though. Adds character really. The texture of the wrapper is like satin. The cigar feels good in the hand.

I used my Xikar Xi to clip the well done cap at angle, something I do as a matter of course on torpedos. Pre-light properties included a subtly spiced grain and light coffee aroma, a slightly tight draw and a dry grassy flavor.

Lighting was effortless with a single flame torch and the burn was true throughout. A sturdy, medium to dark gray ash was produced.

This is a medium body, medium flavor cigar with moderate complexity. The defining characteristic for me was its excellent balance. Each component in the profile complemented the other. Flavors included cocoa and coffee over a lightly spiced foundation. This basic character prevailed through the whole experience varying only in intensity. The moderately long finish was gentle on the palate leaving a coffee with cream aftertaste.

A box of 20 of these gems can be had on-line for under $60 making them a true value that delivers real pleasure. I’d recommend them to anyone!
