I'll Drink to That! What is your favorite beverage to have with a cigar? Juice? Cola? Beer? Port? Single Malt Scotch? This room is for the discussion of beverages, especially alcoholic beverages that go well with cigars! |

Sazerac
When I was at the liquor store last week, the guy there recommended Sazerac. I'm sure most of you guys already know what it is, especially you boys from Louisiana. This stuff isn't bad at all. Rye whiskey that is pretty smooth. I drank it with some ice and it went down nicely. The guy at Spec's told me that it's not available all the time here in Austin. He said LA manages to eat up most of the whiskey that comes out of the distillary. I'd recommend Sazerac for a nice change of pace.

Was this the 10 or 18 year old Saz?

BigO, I didn't even know there was an 18yr version. My bottle has the squared off/angled bottom. I'm thinking that's the 10yr version?

Yup. The 18 year old is sold as Thomas Handy Sazerac and it's in the same bottle as the Eagle Rare 18 and the Stagg 18.
10 year old Saz is plenty drinkable. The 18 is absolutely superlative. I may have to have a little tonight (I have one bottle left and the days of $60 a bottle booze are behind me for now).

Actually that's 6 YR, not 10 YR. I think it makes a decent Manhattan, but overall I'm not that crazy about it. Much prefer the Rittenhouse, Michters or Russells Reserve...

Mike--did a post on this a couple of months ago (just a few threads down). Got some good suggestions and alternatives.
http://forums.cigarweekly.com/showthread.php?t=163611 Had some Sazerac last night. I like it. A little ice, and water on the side. May have to take the suggestions from the other thread and try the Wild Turkey version.
