Yes, there were a couple of others starting up back when I lived there, before A-B bought Devil's Backbone Brewing. Dave Matthews Band's manager has seeded a lot of money in the area for brewing and distilling I believe.

Culpeper VA has Copper Fox, which seems to be distributing further and doing more variations now (they had a potent white whiskey my neighbors and I used to toast new years... hot!)
