A few quick beer tasting notes.

While we were at Floridaze, we loaded up as a group and went to Chan's, a beer and liquor store with a great selection of beer. Everyone left with a couple of 6 or 4 packs and we did a long session of tasting over the weekend.

Here's a few of my thoughts on some of them. At least the ones I can remember.

Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA. Wonderfully balanced with enough hoppyness to offset the deep malty flavor. Just a great beer.

Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA. Another great offering from the same brewery. Deep, deep rich maltyness, maybe even to sweet. It's still a very good beer but I would have thought I would be a bit hoppier than the 60.

Paulaner Salvator. A great dopple bock. rich and malty with just enough hops to cut through the creamy sweetness. I'll be drinking more of this one.

Whithead Ale. Thin and light. Not much happening other than carbonation. I won't be wasting time and money on this one again.

Tetley's English Ale. I love English Ales, but this one comes up way short IMO. It's a lovely caramel brown ale and for all practical pourposes it lools like a great beer in the glass but the flavor is so thin and insipid it just wouldn't stand up to the rest of the English Ales I like. I don't recomend it all.

Mackeson's Stout. Unique is one thing I can say about it. Nearly devoid of hops all together, so to call it sweet might be an understatement. Don't missunderstand me though, it's a treat to drink. When you think of a cream stout, this is what you'd think of. I probably couldn't sit down and make a night of them, but a couple with a good heavy cigar is good combo.

Omegang's Three Philosophers. Deep rich and complex. The cherry's aren't to overpowering so it makes for a very interesting quaff. I'd have to be in the mood though. More than worth a try on any account.
