Been reading through the old Scotch threads
And I saw where Doug was giving props to the "old 105" cask-strength Glenfarclas. Is that a term of endearment, or was the former 105 a better pour? They've got it locally and it's very reasonable, so I'm wondering if I ought to investigate it or if it's been "improved" in recent years. They've also got the Glenfarclas 17 ($111) and 21 year old versions. A good bet?
Also, there's a Lagavulin 16 ($100), Ardbeg 10 ($71, surprisingly expensive for 10-year-old), and Laphroaig 10 ($48), and I'm looking for votes on which you'd get if you were at the store to buy Scotch. The Caol Ila 12 (non-cask) is also reasonable (65), and they have an 18-year-old version that seems surprisingly reasonable in price (83 bucks). About the same price as other 18-year-olds, like The Glenlivet or Macallen. Right now I've got a bottle of Glenlivet 18 that I can hardly pass by without popping the cork for a sniff, wow. Caramel, brown sugar, yum.
