Well, I've had an approximately 5-month old cask strength spirit from the Kilchoman Distillery on the Isle of Islay that was very tasty and drinkable despite its youth and 'heat' (not to mention an excellent 3-year release from the same site as well as Clear Creek Distillery's very fine 3-year old McCarthy's Oregon Single Malt).
It all boils down to the quality of the spirit running off the stills as far as I'm concerned. Micro-distilling in the U.S.A. certainly IS experiencing exponential growth, it would appear.
