Patel says he lives by a simple rule: "I believe in buying at least two of everything I can afford. I always open one."

I like his way of thinking, even though I have - on occasion - had to limit myself to a single bottle... and then, of course, open it.

Unfortunately (for me), the 'golden days' of being able to purchase rare and outstanding whiskies at relatively reasonable prices seem to have evaporated, and I now focus almost exclusively on true value-for-money editions.

Rampant speculation (not to mention a cascade of outrageously priced 'limited edition' bottlings issued by distilleries and/or their parent companies) has, in many ways, ruined the marketplace for those of us more interested in imbibing than investing in 'liquid assets'.

given the amount of bourbon distilling capacity (or American whiskey capacity) I expect the bourbon boom may go a bit bust in the next couple of year. Then again MGP has the capacity to distill an ocean and the prices keep going up.
