I purchased some of this last week. I took the "coins" and rubbed them in my hands, breaking them apart. Then I stuffed my pipe full! It smoked well and was very mild. I did not get a distinct taste of latakia or the perique either. Although, it was good, it was just not my cup of tea. I've also tried other brands with latakia in it. The taste was much more pronounced in John Cotton's #1 and Smyrna.
