I just bought a Cuisinart programmable to replace my cuisinart programmable that died after 7-8 years. The new one has a thermal pot which I like very much.

The best review I read on coffee makers was "obviously if you read enough reviews of coffee makers you will find that someone loves every model and someone hates every model, usually for the same reason."

SO TRUE.

I love the thermal pot, but most coffee makers you get 8 cup "thermal pot" vs 12 cup carafe. And that's a HUGE difference in our house...

The problem with a carafe is you have to keep the pot warm and this deterioates the coffee and you get an overcooked taste.
Go to a Japanese store and buy an insulated thermos type dispenser. The one with the button or lever on top which allows you to dispense hot beverages such as coffee. Brew the coffee, put it in the dispenser and it will keep the coffee hot and fresh all day.
I use a coffee (French) press and the coffee tastes great. Tastes different. The melita coffee drip is good but will may need a big one and takes a lot of time. You may not be able to find one that makes 12 cups.
Some of the BM's here roast their own green coffee beans, grind it and brew it. A lot of work but probably the best IMHO.
Here in the Philippines they prefer instant coffee! Yuck. Which is surprising as they grow coffee beans here in Baguio and Batangas.

home roasted is definately better coffee

the thermal pot is the way to go, even if you have to buy a stand alone pot. Hell you can use a good old thermos. If you want the coffee to stay warmer longer, fill thermos or thermal pot with hot water while coffee brews. Pre warming it lets teh coffee keep all its heat. well not all but more of its heat.
